Privacy Policy
The short version: HyperTube Music has no accounts of its own, no ads and no tracking. Your music, your sign-in and your settings stay on your computer. Here are the details.
1What the app keeps on your computer
To work, the app saves some things on your own computer: your settings, your sign-in session, the music you download, your listening history, cached artwork and a log file that helps with fixing problems. None of this is sent to us. Signing out removes your session, and removing the app's data folder removes everything else.
2Signing in with Google
When you sign in, you do it on Google's own sign-in page, shown inside the app. The app never sees or stores your password. Your library, likes, playlists and history live in your Google account, and Google's Privacy Policy covers how Google handles them.
3Who the app talks to
The app connects directly to YouTube and Google to find and play music, show lyrics and keep your library in sync. There is no server of ours in between.
About once a week, the app also reads a public list of Firefox versions from Mozilla. It uses this to keep Google's sign-in page working, and it sends nothing about you with that request.
If you turn on the Discord plugin, the app shares what you are playing with the Discord app running on your computer, which then shows it on your profile. The plugin is off unless you turn it on.
4Crash reports
Crash reports are off unless you turn on Share crash reports and diagnostics in Settings. When they are on, the app sends reports of crashes and serious errors to a server run by the HyperTube Music project.
A report includes the app version, basic facts about your system such as the operating system and graphics, the state of the app such as which page was open, whether you were signed in and online, your language and which plugins were on, and the names of the last few actions. Reports are built to leave out what you type, what you play and the addresses the app visits. A crash report also includes a snapshot of part of the app's memory at the moment it crashed, which could contain information that was on screen.
Reports are used only to find and fix problems, and are deleted after 90 days. Turning the option off stops all sending, including any report that was waiting to be sent.
5This website
This website does not use analytics, ads or tracking scripts, and does not load anything from other companies' servers while you browse. It sets two small cookies that remember your theme and your language for one year.
Our server logs which page was asked for and how long it took to answer, without your IP address. The company that hosts the site may keep standard access logs of its own. The list of releases and the star count are fetched from GitHub by our server, and the download files themselves are served by GitHub when you download them.
6Children
HyperTube Music is not meant for children who are too young to have a Google account where they live. It does not knowingly collect information about anyone.
7Changes to this policy
If the app or the website starts handling information differently, we will update this page before that change is released. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
